Country Strong

I don’t know what it is – probably my lack of serious expertise in high quality cinema – but generally, if all the critics say a movie is just awful, I love it. Such was the case with Country Strong, which I ventured out pre-ice storm last night to see. I thought it was wonderful! If you’re a country music fan, you need to download the music ASAP; Gwyneth is perfect, Leighton Meester’s voice was SO surprisingly perfect for the genre, and I wish the entire movie would have been close-ups of Garrett Hedlund singing…
While it may not be Oscar-worthy, it’s definitely worth the $10 to head to the theaters this week – quite a shocking ending, in my opinion, too!
PS – I saw Tim McGraw on Chelsea Lately the other night, saying that he gets scared to do movies because he doesn’t want people to think “what is this country guy doing on screen?” Newsflash for Tim – he’s been fabulous in ALL his movies! And for once this movie wasn’t about football, and it STILL was great!
