Fresh From The Big Apple: Southern Protocol Bridal Brings Charleston Belles 5 Trends From New York’s International Bridal Week

In early October, the Southern Protocol Bridal squad (including new boutique principals Lisa Rice and Ann E. Rice Ervin and Boutique Manager/Buyer Michelle Miller) attended New York’s International Bridal Week. We visited exclusive designer show rooms and runway shows stocked with the latest bridal trends along with meeting a few of the geniuses behind the gowns we all know and love.

With dress upon dress parading down runways, we saw five distinct trends bubbling up among the new collections that are sure to make our Belles swoon. So what do we have our eye on for spring? We thought you’d never ask…

The Halter Neckline

No longer reserved for running tanks or 90’s crop-tops, this sleek and sophisticated take on a sporty style has us smitten. A striking way to show off the shoulders, the halter compliments a gown’s delicate drapes and flowing skirt. This neckline also lends itself to sufficiently supporting a sultry open back.

Long Lace Sleeves

Modeling after Mrs. Middleton, we see long luxurious lace sleeves making a comeback. With hand-cut applique and gossamer net shaping, this look is pure romance. Intricate lace from collar bone to wrist delivers on any Belle’s desire for detail and dreamy delicacy that is anything but dowdy.

Bringing It Back

The view from behind is a frequent focal point as a leading lady walks down the aisle or moves through the room. Long overdue, we’re seeing intricate construction and finite features making their way around to create stunning silhouettes for both the front and back of the gown. Adding a dramatic touch such as bows or ruffles can ensure everyone will hate to see you leave, but love to watch you go.

Va-Va Voom V

As we mentioned, paying the back of your gown due attention is always a good choice, so we were delighted to see subtle construction and cuts delivering dramatic flair. Our personal favorite, the low-V back, is a lovely way to accentuate the back and shoulders while keeping a classy, timeless look. Simple, but effective, this cut will compliment any Belle.

Nicole Miller - Janey Gown

All about that applique! Textured fabrics and textiles are coming with gusto in 2017. Whether it adds contemporary flair to a classic fabric or delivers the wow-factor on detail, we’re seeing some creative contrast on this front.

Inspired and energized by the Big Apple, Southern Protocol Bridal is in the process of ordering our 2017 gowns. As you might have guessed, it’s much like trying to choose our favorite stars in the sky or flavor of ice cream.

With that said, if there’s a look you love, speak up! We always love to hear from our Belles. You are also welcome to stop by as we’re doubling our inventory with new arrivals anticipated as soon as December.
